Configuring 3rd Party Email ClientThis is a featured page

You can configure a 3rd Party e-mail client to retreive and send your e-mail using POP3. (Post Office Protocol 3) This method allows you to save your e-mail locally, either on hard or network drive. Examples of 3rd Party e-mail clients are: Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird and Eudora.

The advantage of this system is that you can easily save all of your incoming and outgoing e-mail. You can also manage email with planning or calendar software you may have on your local machine.

The disadvantage is that once you have read an e-mail there is no longer a copy of the e-mail on the mail server. If you lose the copy on your local drive there is no backup copy. It is also more difficult to manage your mail if you frequently use more than one computer to access your e-mail account. You can leave copies of your email on the server, but you'll need to check periodically to see that you mail box isn't at capacity.

3rd party email configuation are as follows:
Account type: POP
Incoming server: mail.smuhsd.org
port: 25
User name:
Password:
Outgoing mail server (smtp): mail.smuhsd.org
Port 110
(No SSL)

If you have questions about which method you should use to access your e-mail check with the Technology Coordinator at your school to better understand the benefits and restrictions of each method of access.

I'm not getting my outgoing server to work as consistently as I would like.

Is there more detailed info about the outgoing settings? I would love to know this for me and for any other staff members here at Aragon that would like to go above and beyond and check there work email on their home computer. As we all know, everyone is anxious to do this. ; )
